This report was presented to the UNO Special Rapporteur in 2003 when the BLAC committee briefed the UN representative. The second of three volumes, this report is divided into three (3) main sections. In the first, the history of Black Nova Scotians, in particular their experience of segregation and discrimination within the Nova Scotian educational system, is examined. The next section presents four case studies which illustrate the systemic barriers to the Black community's access to education in the province. This section also notes the progress or lack thereof in programs instituted to redress inequalities in the educational system. In its third section, the report provides a review of related studies and publications on the subject of discrimination in education.
