résumé anglais
The authors in this compilation use the twin concepts of power and resistance to understand and respond to unjust social relations. By looking at the issues of class, gender, sexual orientation and race in Canada, the authors attempt to reveal the ways in which dominant groups establish and maintain their social, political, and economic power. Specific areas which the authors address are economic rights, Aboriginal rights, women's rights, environmental rights and the Canadian political economy. The main conclusion which is reached by all of the authors is that these pressing social issues arise as a result of a hierarchical, unjust society, and this must be addressed before any other social issues can be resolved.

Whenever Canada attacks Russia for the treatment of Jewish people, or Israel for the treatment of her Palestinian captives, in the United Nations, Canada is also universally condemned for the treatment of her Aboriginal peoples. Canada has kept its Indians in concentration camps, known as reserves, for about one hundred and twenty-five years and has regulated their behaviour in all aspects of their lives. Mikel, 1979
