Abstract English
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relations between police organizations and the communities that they serve. Specifically, the review reports on the representation and participation of minorities in policing, intercultural and race relations workshops, and the attitudes of police regarding the communities they serve, as well as the community's perceptions of the police. In the process, the study not only identifies these issues, but also appraises any progress made in these areas and suggests recommendations for change. Included in the study are statistics on the above mentioned variables, as well as an overview of the successes and failures of community policing.
Quotations
Although they do not deny the existence of racism, sexism or homophobia among their members, police officers say that they do not perceive institutional racism or discrimination. (p.46)
