CRRF urges the Government of Canada to reconsider axing the long census PDF Print E-mail
Toronto, Ontario, July 16, 2010: The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) urges the Government of Canada to reconsider its decision to axe the mandatory long census (Form 2B). The CRRF is of the opinion that axing the long questionnaire will negatively impact all levels of government to adequately serve Canadians.

“From a public policy perspective, it is imperative to base our analysis on sound data and information. Form 2B has constituted a credible source of data which enabled municipal, provincial and federal planners to make well informed decisions on a whole range of areas, such as immigration, health, employment, housing, income and education”, said Dr. Ayman Al-Yassini, CRRF Executive Director.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation believes that a voluntary survey will not generate the needed database, and may weaken the country’s ability to make informed choices about the programs and services that are crucial for the health, wellbeing and security of Canadians, including visible minorities.
