People born in the place to which reference is being made. This term is somewhat ambiguous because of claims by many people of immigrant ancestry who have been born in North America to be "native" Canadians or Americans. The capitalization of the word is usually what distinguishes its application to Aboriginal peoples from the more general usage.

Refers to a group of people with common interests who share information formally or informally without authority or dominant hierarchy.

An Aboriginal person who is not recognized   as"Indian" under The Indian Act. This term does not apply to Inuit or Mètis persons as they are not included under The Indian Act.
